What counts as a diagram?

The short answer: each macro instance on a Confluence page is one diagram.

One macro instance = one diagram

Every time you insert a ZenUML macro onto a Confluence page, that insertion is counted as one diagram within the space it lives in. The count is per-space, not per-page or per-user.

For example, if you insert three ZenUML macros onto a single Confluence page, that page contributes three diagrams to your space's count.

The Embed diagram type (which re-uses an existing diagram) counts as one diagram for the embed macro itself — the original source diagram also has its own count.

Viewing a diagram — even thousands of times — does not affect your count. Only saved macro instances matter.

Lite limit: 100 diagrams per space. Once a space reaches 100, new diagrams cannot be added to that space until you upgrade to Full or remove existing diagrams. Other spaces are unaffected — each space has its own independent count.

Pricing FAQ

Is ZenUML for Confluence really free?

Yes. The Lite plan is free on the Atlassian Marketplace — no credit card, no trial period, no expiry. You can install it today and start creating diagrams at no cost. Lite supports up to 100 diagrams per Confluence space, with all 6 diagram types included.

What happens when I reach 100 diagrams in a space?

When a space reaches 100 diagrams on the Lite plan, a paywall prompt appears when you try to create or edit diagrams in that space. Existing diagrams remain fully visible to all readers — nothing breaks or disappears. You have two options: upgrade to the Full plan for unlimited diagrams, or remove existing diagrams from the space to stay within the limit. Other spaces on your Confluence instance are not affected.

How is billing handled?

Billing is handled entirely by Atlassian Marketplace. ZenUML never sees or stores your payment details. You manage your subscription, invoices, and seat count through your Atlassian account at my.atlassian.com. This is the same billing system you use for all other Atlassian Marketplace apps.

Can I try Full before paying?

Atlassian Marketplace offers a free evaluation period for paid apps. Check the Marketplace listing for current trial terms. After the evaluation period, billing begins automatically through your Atlassian account. You can cancel at any time.

Is pricing per user or per space?

Pricing for the Full plan follows Atlassian Marketplace's standard per-user model. The cost is based on the number of users on your Confluence instance — you do not pay separately per space. The Lite plan is free regardless of how many users or spaces you have.

What happens if I uninstall and reinstall?

Your diagram content is stored as Confluence custom content — it lives in your Confluence instance, not on ZenUML's servers. If you uninstall and reinstall ZenUML for Confluence, all your existing diagrams remain in Confluence and will be accessible again after reinstallation. You will not lose any diagrams by cycling the app.
